Symptoms of Eye Problems

If your child has these symptoms, make an appointment to be seen by a pediatric ophthalmologist.

Your child may have a vision problem if your child exhibits these symptoms or behaviors:
  • Frequent eye rubbing
  • Squinting or excessive blinking
  • Avoiding reading and other close activities
  • Frequent headaches
  • Covering or closing one eye
  • Tilting or turning the head to one side
  • Light sensitivity or excessive tearing
  • Drifting or crossing of an eye
  • Seeing double
  • Losing their place when reading or using a finger to guide their eyes when reading
